Worried. Andromeda was very worried, and with good reason. There was a war going on around them and there was a lot at stake. Her husband was a muggle-born while as she was a blood-traitor, the result of their union being a half-blood daughter. There was a lot that could be lost during these hard times, and if the Death Eaters showed up at their home or in public for an attack, well, Andromeda would do what she could to at least get their daughter out of there. She shuddered to think about what would happen should the Death Eaters come to call. Of course, Andromeda could more than defend her home, but there was no guarantee that she or Ted would make it out alive, while as Nymphadora would be the first one to leave that house. At only three years old, there was no way she would be able to fight…the young witch hardly had a hold on her metamorphamagus ability, how would she defend herself? The thought of her daughter having to dream about fighting at such a young age had Andromeda terrified.
Most Slytherins had a keen sense of self-preservation, well Andromeda had that but she was concerned about the preservation of her husband and daughter as well. They were, quite literally, all she had left. Well, them and then Sirius. Preserving her family was always the first thing on her mind, which was why Andromeda tightened the wards on their home even more than she already had. As well as Andromeda’s new found fear of Nymphadora being outside, even in their own yard. Sure, Andy had strengthened the wards on their home. There was still that lingering fear that, somehow, the death eaters would breach the wards and harm the two people who mean the world to Andromeda. It was an even greater fear that her sister would be amongst the death eaters that could possibly invade her home. Just the mere thought of it made Andromeda shudder. With all her might she hoped that would not happen, that they would be free to lead a happy and safe life. She strongly believed in fairytales, and that she was being allowed to live hers.
Some might have called her paranoid but Andromeda called it being a mother. Before she had Dora or met Ted, she wouldn’t have had to worry about death eaters coming for her. Reality was that she did have to worry. And it was that fear that made Andy take whatever actions were necessary to keep everyone breathing.
It was at home where Andromeda got antsy and tired of being stuck in the house. Ted had taken Nymphadora to his parent’s house for the day, they had wanted to see her for some reason, and Andromeda was in no mood to visit her in-laws. She loved them, but the idea of a family being so adoring and supportive was still new to Andromeda. Four years of a new routine could not cancel out eighteen years of an old one. So after cleaning the house, Andromeda decided that she would make a quick run to Diagon Alley. They were low on potions ingredients and who knew when they would need to whip up something. It wouldn’t look great if they needed an ingredient and didn’t have it. Her plan set deep in her mind, Andromeda dressed and fixed her hair, clipping the right side back with an old antique barrette that her Uncle Alphard had let her keep when she was five years old. It was also the barrette that she had worn in her hair the day she married Ted. In actuality it was the very same her great-grandmother had worn in her hair the day of her wedding. Andromeda wouldn’t have been surprised if it had been in their family before that as well. Anyway, the first time she laid her eyes on it she had been fond of it. Looking at it in her hair now, Andromeda went back to the day she married Ted, it was a feat that had truthfully changed her life, and for the best.
Adding the finishing touches to her hair and her wardrobe, Andromeda talked to Ted through the fire to let him know that she would be out for a while. After a short okay and I love you from her husband, Andromeda was finally ready to go. She grabbed her wand from her night table, walked out of her room –flicking her wand to, wordlessly, turn off the lights as she went-and walked out the front door. Since the wards on their house would not allow for a person to apparate or disapparate in the home, she had to get past the gate to do so. Once outside of her carefully constructed barriers, Andromeda disapparated with a resounding ’pop’ before she appeared in Diagon Alley. The streets were filled with witches and wizards of all kinds. Some of them gave Andromeda condescending looks, these were the ones who were familiar from the circle that Andy herself, was once part of. It was not a surprise that they undoubtedly knew from her parents that she had run off and married a “mud-blood” as they would have worded it.
Those who didn’t look at her as if she was something nasty under their shoes, or ignore her existence in general, gave Andromeda a friendly smile in passing. A few of these people Andromeda remembered from her years in Hogwarts. To these seemingly nice people, Andromeda returned the friendly smile and continued on her way to the Apothecary. Walking, Andromeda thought about everything she had gone through in the last twelve years of her interest in Ted, starting to when they first began dating, and in this thinking she realized that it was all more than worth it. He was the love of her life, and though she had given up a lot just to be with him, there was no way she could ever imagine a life without him in it. And when Andromeda found out that she was pregnant with Nymphadora a year after her marriage to Ted, they hadn’t been trying for a child; she was still a very welcome and loved surprise. Everything was worth the obstacles that they both had faced, but life was good for both of them. Sure, there were some things that Andromeda still needed help adjusting to – a few were still foreign to her, but she was truthfully happy with how her life was going.
Before Andromeda knew it, she was right in front of the shop she needed to be in. Walking in, the place looked rather bleak and it really was dark. The walls were lined with vials of potions and potions ingredients, all ordered neatly. Thinking back to what was needed, Andromeda looked up at the shelves, not even hearing as the door opened.
